DCI Projects

This was my final project for my DCI 101 class in the fall of 2023. I wanted to explore word choice and frequency in some of Shakespeare's most famous monologues, to understand if any common words emerged that would yield cultural insights. I used AI tools to conduct text analysis, resulting in a data visualization of a word cloud.

I created this StoryMap about the history of redlining in Philadelphia in the winter of 2024 for my Geospatial Analytics class. Through a mixture of historical research and creating map overlays of present-day conditions in ArcGIS, I learned how to identify the evidence and variables needed to advance my argument. I also learned how to best weave my research and maps into an interactive story, utilizing StoryMap features such as timelines and sliding maps to engage the reader.

This was my final project for the DCI capstone class: Creating Digital Scholarship. I wanted to combine my interest in advertising with the data-analysis and digital skills that this minor has given me. I conducted visual and semiotic analysis using an AI tool -- the Distant Viewing Explorer -- across five distinct periods in Coca-Cola's advertising history, in order to uncover the signification systems that might play a part in establish Coca-Cola's brand identity, specifically how it relates to religion. Completing this project gave me practice with transforming traditionally qualitative data into a quantitative analysis, and using pattern recognition software to extract meaningful data points.
